Webinar: Give Wellbeing a Sporting Chance, with Isla Mackenzie and Farmstrong
Go BackTuesday 17 December | 6.30pm to 7.30pm | Online - Zoom
In this special webinar series “Give Wellbeing a Sporting Chance”, we talk to Scottish and International sports professionals who started their career in farming or crofting, and continue to keep their foot firmly on the ground.
We explore what it takes to stay focused on the pitch and on the track, and how they prioritise their wellbeing for the benefit of their sport as well as their own health. We also learn more about why agriculture will always be an important part of their journey to success, and how the skills and experience they gained on the land continue to play a vital part in keeping them resilient during the ups and downs of the sporting world.
Our one-hour blethers are open to anyone with an interest in wellbeing, farming and crofting – you don’t need to have an interest in sport.
Episode Two - Isla Mackenzie, F1 Motorsport Engineer
In episode two of the new Farmstrong Scotland webinar series, Give Wellbeing a Sporting Chance, we chat to Isla Mackenzie, Formula 1 Motorsport Engineer.
Growing up on a dairy farm on the Isle of Lewis, Isla will share her experience from quad bikes to racing cars, the ups and downs and some of the challenges she has faced along the way.
She secured her first job in Formula 1 with Williams in 2017 and worked in their Research & Development department, testing and developing the cars and their individual components.
She then moved to Mercedes High Performance Powertrains where she tested and developed the Formula 1 power units before moving to the main Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula 1 team in Brackley, Northamptonshire, where she now works perfecting parts for the cars that Lewis Hamilton and George Russell drive at Grand Prix races around the world.
Last year Isla’s dream to be a professional racing driver was followed in a BBC documentary called Fast Track to Glory, which showed her moving through the ranks from karts to single seaters with IMC Motorsports.
There have been - and continue to be - plenty of barriers along the way and 30-year-old Isla is convinced the seeds of her drive to succeed were sown back at home on the farm.
Join Farmstrong Scotland Programme Director Alix Ritchie as she blethers with Isla on Tuesday 17 December from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.
